Diseño de material gráfico para la difusión de la problemática del embarazo en adolescentes: una propuesta de comunicación para el Consejo Cantonal para la Protección de Derechos de Ambato

Abstract

Latin America and the Caribbean register the second-highest rate of adolescent pregnancy worldwide, surpassed only by Sub-Saharan Africa, confirming that our region is not an exception to this critical social problem. Key contributing factors include misinformation, limited access to contraceptive methods, and the influence of dysfunctional environments, all of which are triggered by the lack of comprehensive sexual education. The general objective of this project is to develop educational material through graphic resources that disseminate information about adolescent pregnancy, thereby facilitating access to reliable information through the multiple media channels used by young people. A mixed approach was utilized for data collection, combining field research with documentary and bibliographic review. Techniques employed included surveys administered to adolescent students in urban and rural contexts, as well as interviews with professionals in the fields of health, sexuality, and graphic design, aiming to identify causes, consequences, knowledge gaps, and the adolescents’ preferences regarding the design of educational materials. The results revealed that only 40% of adolescents believe they have received quality sexual education, and that the taboo surrounding sexuality still persists. Finally, from a design perspective, adolescents indicated that an attractive and organized format constitutes a key factor for ensuring the complete reading of the content.
