Abstract

The present research, carried out at the "Teresa Flor" Educational Unit located in the city of Ambato, province of Tungurahua, aimed to examine the relationship between working memory and kinesthetic learning in sixth and seventh year students of Basic General Education. With a mixed methodological approach, which combines both qualitative and quantitative elements, the study was proposed with an exploratory, descriptive and correlational level, adopting a cross-sectional design. The research population consisted of a total of 81 students, belonging to the sixth and seventh levels of Basic General Education. To evaluate the working memory capacity, the digit and picture counting subtests of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC V) were selected and applied. In parallel, the Lynn O'Brien Learning Channel Test was administered, which consists of 36 questions designed to identify the predominant learning style in each student. According to the results obtained, the Chi Square statistic is developed and analyzed, showing that there is a correlation between the two variables, thus allowing the approval of the Alternative Hypothesis H1, which states that working memory does affect the kinesthetic learning of sixth and seventh year EGB students at the "Teresa Flor" Educational Unit. These findings support the importance of considering working memory as a relevant factor in learning processes, especially those that involve kinesthetic components.
