    Diseño de un sistema expositor móvil para la protección y comercialización itinerante de flores eternas en espacios públicos

    The itinerant trade of preserved flowers in Ambato, Ecuador, faces a structural problem: the street vendors, who comprise 74.8% of the self-employed workforce in this sector, display their products in an improvised manner, which fails to protect the merchandise and, even more so, their working conditions. Dust, solar radiation, and rain damage the goods; workdays of up to eleven hours without the use of ergonomic equipment result in musculoskeletal injuries in a group whose income depends on the visual quality of their product. This research falls within the design, materials, production, identity, sustainability, and applied technologies research line of the Technical University of Ambato and employs a qualitative approach and an action research methodology, combining direct observation, semi-structured interviews, individual validation and document analysis to develop a design proposal based on empirical evidence obtained from the vendors. The Design Thinking methodology structures the process in five phases: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, ensuring that each decision is based on needs verified in the field. The scientific innovation lies in the FLORAXIS mobile display system: a modular metal structure with a transparent enclosure, internal shelves, and differentiated wheels for irregular surfaces, whose dimensions are determined using Latin American anthropometric data (Ávila Chaurand et al., 2007). Validation with a real user yielded a score of 86 out of 90, confirming that the design has a positive impact on the protection and mobile sale of preserved flowers in public spaces in Ambato.

    Codiseño de un juguete lúdico para fomentar la autorregulación emocional en niños entre 3 a 4 años de edad de educación inicial

    This research addresses the design and development of “Emocub”, a multisensory educational toy aimed at strengthening emotional self-regulation in children aged 3 to 4 years in Early Childhood Education. The study is grounded in a qualitative approach, descriptive level, and feasible project modality complemented by field research, applying a user-centered codesign methodology that integrated the active participation of teachers, parents, and the users themselves throughout all phases of the process. The diagnosis was carried out through direct observation guides and semi-structured interviews conducted at the "Pedro Fermín Cevallos" Educational Unit in the canton of Cevallos, province of Tungurahua. The results revealed the absence of specific play-based tools for addressing emotions at the initial education level, as well as difficulties in emotional recognition and management among children at this developmental stage. Based on this contextual evidence, design criteria were defined by integrating principles of child ergonomics, color psychology, sensory stimulation, and active pedagogy, theoretically supported by the postulates of Norman, Montessori, Vygotsky, and Goleman. The resulting prototype consists of a modular cubic structure manufactured in PLA filament, with five interchangeable panels representing the basic emotions of sadness, anger, happiness, surprise, and fear, each associated with a differentiated emotional regulation activity. Prototype validation was conducted with six Early Childhood Education users, in the consolidated regulation category, confirming the pedagogical, functional, and aesthetic relevance of the design for the target population.

    Diseño de mobiliario multifuncional para espacios reducidos, cercanos al campus Universitario de la UTA en Huachi para estudiantes de Diseño y Arquitectura

    Esta investigación trata sobre el diseño de muebles multifuncionales para espacios pequeños, dirigido a los estudiantes de Diseño y Arquitectura de la Universidad Técnica de Ambato, quienes viven en el área de Huachi Chico. Este proyecto responde a la creciente dificultad de habitar en entornos reducidos, donde los espacios disponibles no ofrecen las condiciones adecuadas para realizar actividades fundamentales como estudiar, descansar y socializar, lo que afecta negativamente en el bienestar del usuario. El objetivo principal es diseñar soluciones de muebles que maximicen el uso eficiente del espacio disponible, integrando elementos de ergonomía, funcionalidad y sostenibilidad. La propuesta se basa en una investigación teórica y práctica, que incluye el análisis de las características del entorno, entrevistas con los usuarios y medidas antropométricas. Estos datos permitieron identificar las necesidades específicas de los estudiantes y desarrollar un diseño centrado en el usuario, que se adapte a sus actividades diarias. Como resultado, el mobiliario diseñado incluye conceptos de multifuncionalidad, usando mecanismos plegables, deslizables y modulares para convertir un mismo espacio en áreas específicas según la necesidad. Además, se dio prioridad al uso de materiales accesibles y sostenibles, promoviendo prácticas responsables en el diseño y fabricación.
