The present work described down below has the following objectives; to show a methodology which will allow us: first, to identify housing with characteristics known as Vernacular Architecture in Quisapincha, a village 20mins. away NW of Ambato, and subsequently to analyze their space and form. Vernacular Architecture has remained forgotten with not a real evaluation of its contribution and in danger of disappearing due to the advance of modern techniques. This methodology will allow to identify Vernacular Architecture in this rural village in the Tungurahua province, based on the CIAV (Carta Internacional de Arquitectura Vernácula) recomendations, issued by UNESCO through its consulting body such as: ICOMOS. These international entities are the leading bodies in the protection of the National Heritage. The selection process of this kind of architecture in housing, was initiated by the INPC, (Instituto Nacional de Patrimonio Cultural) and further by the complementary work of this research. This is, to continue identifying characteristics of Vernacular Architecture in housing in Quisapincha, following the CIAV recomendations, such as the use of: community labour, traditional materials (autochthonous), which in turn will help to anlyze: space anf form. Likewise, organization space, proportionality, architecture scale, symmetry and rythm, etc., are elements which besides their visual impact they convey a certain notion of a location, providing its inmediate needs, such as: protection and shelter. Therefore, the Vernacular Architecture could well be an inmense support in aesthetic, space, and constructions techniques to fit a variety of modern and contemporary architecture proposals.
