For that reason, the present study was carried out to determine the influence of authentic written materials on the development of speaking skill. The research study was done with two groups: experimental and control group of A1 level students of the regular program in the Language Center in Universidad Técnica de Ambato. The level of the students in the speaking skill was determined through the application of a pre-test in the selected groups. Ten practical classes were applied using authentic written materials in the experimental group. The experiment concluded with a post-test in the experimental and control group. Once the results were validated, the verification of the hypothesis was carried out through the student t-test. The results obtained showed that authentic written materials promote the development of speaking skill. Moreover, during the experimental classes the students participated actively increasing the interaction in the classroom using English. The activities applied during the research study are included in a booklet. It contains ten communicative activities using authentic written materials which, encouraging real conversation and motivating students in the English learning process.Item Communicative activities in the speaking skill development(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestria en la Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2019-10) Guailla Guaranga, Janneth Mercedes; Suárez Mosquera, Wilma ElizabethThe main objective of this study was to investigate whether the implementation of communicative activities in the English language learning process improves the speaking skill of students belonging to eighth year of basic general education. To determine the effectiveness of communicative activities in improving students' speaking skill, a pre-test and a post-test of verbal development were applied. These exams were structured based on the KET (Key English Test) international exam and were taken by the students of the 8th grade of basic general education of the Unidad Educativa Pedro Vicente Maldonado during the 2018-2019 academic period. A booklet with class plans was designed which served as a guide for the implementation of this study in the classroom with the students of the experimental group. These class plans mainly contained communicative activities such as questions, role plays, games, information gaps, storytelling, and describing pictures. All these activities were combined with speaking sub-skills namely grammar, pronunciation, interactive communication, repair and repetition, and appropriacy. All the activities carried out were focused on the oral communication of the students who demonstrated improvement after this process. Having finished the intervention in the classroom, a post-test was taken which had the same approach as the pre-test. Then, the processing of the data obtained for subsequent analysis and interpretation was performed through the Student's T-Test. The results demonstrated that the implementation of the communicative activities enhances the speaking skill of the students.Item Communicative language teaching (CLT) activities to develop English speaking skills(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestria en la Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2019-10) García León, Erika Paola; Wilber Orlando, Romero VillarroelCurrently, society requires highly trained professionals in all areas, and the English language is not the exception, that is why students need to learn to communicate in a foreign language. However, the development of speaking skill has not been easy to acquire due to the traditional methodologies such as memorization of dialogues, repetitions, excessive grammatical activities and absence of updated material used during the teaching-learning process of the English language. That is why the objective of this research study is to analyze the Communicative Approach CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) as a method to improve the Speaking Skill in the third level English students of the Language Center of the Technical University of Babahoyo. Therefore, during the research period the researcher established two groups of 30 participants each. The methods applied in this study was quantitative and qualitative. In the first phase, a pretest was applied to know the initial situation of the 60 participants. In the second phase, a post-test was used to determine the influence on improving the speaking skills using communicative activities. The quantitative method was used to know the attitudes of the participants towards the CLT methodology. It was done through a survey which was only applied to the treatment group. Afterward, the data collection and analysis was carried out, and the results showed that the use of communicative activities had a positive effect on the development of oral skills; likewise, the participants said they felt satisfied and very motivated with the implementation of the communicative activities based on CLT approach.Item English listening and speaking app and the oral communicative competence(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestría en Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2018-07) Gómez Reyes, Andreína Alexandra; Encalada Trujillo, Edgar GuadiaThe development of oral communicative competence has been of great importance in EFL instruction, because after all, the most effective way to communicate is through speech. However, the results of students in speaking is usually poor due to many factors, such as the difficulty practicing this skill. Therefore, the communicative competence in most students needs improvement. One way to help students develop their oral communicative competence effectively is through the use of mobile applications, since they can easily be used inside and outside the classroom. The present research is focused on the use of “English Listening and Speaking App” to develop the oral communicative competence, in which a quasi-experiment was applied to students of B1+ intermediate level of the open courses of Universidad Técnica de Ambato. The purpose of the study was to prove the efficacy of “English Listening and Speaking app” in the oral communicative competence. A pre-test and a post-test were applied to a control and experimental group, while the experimental group used the mobile application in some interactive activities in and out the class during the process to test the hypothesis. xvi The statistical analysis of the results showed the efficacy of “English Listening and Speaking App” in improving the oral communicative competence of students in the experimental group. The outcome of the T test ended up in a result of 0,004. Due to this favorable result, this study resulted in the creation of a methodological guide of interactive and communicative activities based on the elements of “English Listening and Speaking App.” Those activities intend to help learners develop their communicative competence efficiently and effectively. In addition, the methodological guide also includes different ways to assess those activities and prove students´ development.
