Item Soundcloud app and pronunciation(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-03-01) Paucar Lizano, Cristina de los Ángeles; Chimbo Cáceres, Elsa MayorieThis research aims to investigate the impact of SoundCloud application in the students’ pronunciation of fourth level from PINE program (Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros) at Universidad Técnica de Ambato. The study was carried out with a quasi-experimental research, and it included 23 students. They were divided into two groups, the control group and the experimental group. The control group did not have any treatment, while the experimental group worked with the SoundCloud application. During this process the students had to listen to the recordings given by the teacher which included the [t], [d], and the [ɪd] sounds at the end of the regular verbs in the simple past tense. The research took five meetings by the Zoom platform, two of them were just to apply the pre-test and the post-test and the other three meetings were especially for checking the three sounds in simple past-tense. At the end of each session they had to upload individual podcasts to the SoundCloud application to receive feedback from their classmates. The data was collected through a pre-test (at the beginning of the intervention) and post-test (at the end of the intervention), and to evaluate both tests it was necessary the use of a checklist. Finally, the researcher used the software SPSS and the statistical T-student to obtain the results of the intervention. To develop this investigation a group of 30 students from Juan Montalvo Parish was used. This research sought was to analyze the influence of the KWL Strategy on the oral communication skills of the English Language. The study used a qualitative and quantitative approach. The qualitative approach interprets students’ opinions and perceptions. The quantitative approach analyzes numerical data gathered from the tests. It was also pre-experimental research due to there was only 1 experimental group. The investigator used a pre-test, post-test, and survey as instruments to collect data. For the pre and post-test, a KET test from the Cambridge examination was applied. To analyzed the obtained data, the author used the SPSS Statistical Program. The hypothesis was verified using the t-student test. The results showed that the KWL strategy influenced positively students’ oral communicationItem The hooked on phonics app and the English pronunciation(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-01-01) Sánchez Villegas, Gabriela Fernanda; Chicaiza Redín, Verónica ElizabethThe current research had the objective to demonstrate how the Hooked on Phonics application influences the English pronunciation development, considering that the speaking ability is one of the most complex to acquire, and has an extraordinary importance in communication because it plays an important role in listening comprehension, oral expression and oral interaction. For the development of the research, it was necessary to use a qualitative and pre-experimental approach methodology, where 17 third-year students of basic education from Private Education Unit “Jerusalem” participated, with ages between 7 and 8. The intervention process lasted 2 months and involved performing 8 activities to improve pronunciation, evaluated at the beginning and end of the mediation. After the development of the research, it was possible to conclude that Hooked on Phonics app was effective because the final level of students' pronunciation was satisfactory since the majority (59%) was at level 3, several of them were at level 4, being very good; and some of them at level 5, considered excellent. Observing a greater familiarization with English language sounds and improvement intonation, fluency and self-confidence.Item The Starfall app and the English pronunciation(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-01-01) Cando Sánchez, Johanna Lizbeth; Calero Sánchez, Ximena AlexandraThis study aimed to research how the Starfall app develops in the English pronunciation since it is a new alternative to learn the language oriented to children in preschool, kindergarten, first, second and third grade. This program emphasizes exploration, play, and positive reinforcement, encouraging kids to feel safe and motivated to learn. For the research development, a quasi-experimental qualitative methodology was used with 10 fourth-year students from Basic Education School "Marcial Augusto Soria", whose ages fluctuated between 8 and 9 years OLD. They were evaluated before and after the five-week intervention. At the end of the research, the results of the pre and post-test were compared and it was possible to verify the effectiveness of the Starfall application in English pronunciation. Before the experimentation, most of the students were in level 1, that means, there was limited control of phonological characteristics and incomprehensible speech. However, at the end of the experimentation, the majority were placed at level 3 which was satisfactory, and at level 4, being very good because the speech was understandable, there was good intonation, use of accent and in general, good articulation of words
