The collaborative learning and the writing skill
(Universidad Tècnica de Ambato.Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn.Carrera de Idiomas, 2019-09-01) Acuña Cortes, Evelin Fernanda; Vera de la Torre, Ana Jazmina
The writing of the English language as a second language and as a foreign language has a vital contribution to the student`s life. Generally, the student concentrates exclusively on the lexical and syntactic levels rather than on the discursive level, that is, textual coherence. For this reason, most students feel that their only sense of security comes from what they have learned about grammar and that grammar is the only tool they can use when writing material in the English language is presented. That is why collaborative learning in the classroom represents an opportunity for teachers, through the design of their activities, to promote in their students the development of skills, attitudes, and values. The objective of this project is to determine the use of collaborative learning and its impact on the development of English language writing skills in the first-year high school students of the "San José de Poalo" Educational Unit. The results indicate that the students do not develop the writing skills of the English language, for various reasons such as the limited time of class hours; a large number of students in the classroom and Lack of interaction due to individual learning which prevents the teacher from checking the correct use of spelling in all students

(Universidad Tècnica de Ambato.Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn.Carrera de Idiomas, 2019-09-01) Astudillo Neto, Andrea Carolina; Chimbo Cáceres, Elsa Mayorie
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the influence of homework in seventh-year students’ academic achievement in “Planeta Azul” School from Ambato city. For the development of this research a mixed approach was used (qualitative-quantitative) with the purpose of getting a deeper analysis of this research, through a survey applied to 50 students and 3 teachers to get important data useful for the investigation process. Once the data was collected, it was tabulated and represented in tables and graphics to be analyzed later. Consequently, with the results got from the survey it was concluded that the teachers in “Planeta Azul” School don’t vary the type of homework they send and also since they only send two of three types of homework proposed in this work. These are: practice homework to make learners foster the content learned in class, preparation homework to search for new information before learners start a new class; and the extension homework that is the least used by teachers, which asks students to apply their knowledge and critical thinking in more difficult tasks. Unfortunately; it is causing that students don’t do their homework and inevitably their academic achievement is being affected for the lack of feedback in homework and the inadequate evaluation done by teachers

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación.Carrera de Idiomas, 2019-07-01) Nazareno Mercado, María Genny; Calero Sánchez, Ximena Alexandra
Every day people consciously or subconsciously choose a language variety in order to interact in different social contexts in which they ought to determine situational factors to make an appropriate usage of language during interactions. For this reason, the main objective of the current investigation was to determine how language registers influence the development of writing skills among students of ninth semester of English Language Major from Universidad Técnica de Ambato. This investigation had a qualitative-quantitative approach and the methodology developed consisted on the application of two pre-test writings, later five sessions of experimentation were conducted about formal and informal register, and finally two post-test writings were applied. In this way, students developed different pieces of writing in which they demonstrated their understanding about this subject. In order to evidence the level of effectiveness of language registers in the development of writings skills, the T-test statistical tool was used. The findings revealed that there is a bond between language registers and the development of writing skills, this is due to the fact that adequate knowledge and distinction of social contexts permitted to students accomplished the creation of well-written texts demonstrating a thoughtful use of the formal and informal registers and facilitating the usage of appropriate written language. It was also found that, even though students most of the time would rather take an unencumbered and more informal approach, they considered that it is essential to write according to the diverse social contexts and to recognize the level of acquaintance with people in order to use formal or informal language with appropriateness.
