Peer-review through online tools and the writing skill
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y extranjeros, 2024-07-01) Tamayo Barrionuevo, María Cristina; Suárez Mosquera, Wilma Elizabeth
Assessment must be flexible, placing the student at the center of the learning process and providing several options for incorporation into the evaluation process, such as peer review, it allows students to assess, evaluate, and give feedback between pairs, which promotes learner autonomy. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of peer review in improving writing skills. This research work used a mixed method by gathering quantitative data with a preexperimental approach. Therefore, the researcher worked with a single group of 13 sixthsemester students of the Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros at Universidad Técnica de Ambato. The researcher carried out 10 practical tasks and each one counted as a session, these activities were developed in the online tool Google Docs which allowed students to create an individual file with their written work and do a review in pairs by providing feedback by using the comments and suggestions section. Then, to meet the established objectives and obtain results, it was necessary to utilize some instruments. The first was a diagnostic survey to analyze the use and awareness of learning and knowledge technologies (LKT). The second instrument was a pre-and post-test to identify the writing ability of the students before and after treatment, and the third was a survey created based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) to determine the level of acceptance of students after using the Google Docs tool. After that, the data collected was analyzed through the nonparametric normality test, t-test, and Shapiro-Wilcoxon test. Consequently, the results demonstrated a significant improvement in writing skills and a high acceptance of the use of the Google Docs tool, so the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected
