This research analyzed the influence of WhatsApp and Facebook on the orthographic skills of ninth-grade students at the "Jerusalén" Educational Unit in the city of Ambato. The methodology employed was qualitative, descriptive, and field-based. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews and analysis of writing samples produced on digital platforms. The results indicate that informal language such as the use of abbreviations, omissions, and non-standard grammar negatively affects academic writing. The Chi-square statistical analysis confirmed the existence of a statistically significant positive correlation. Despite students' awareness of the need for correct writing, continuous interaction in informal language contexts influences the recurrence of orthographic errors in their everyday writing. Therefore, the study highlights the need to implement digital literacy instruction within pedagogical contexts to strengthen correct writing practices in both academic and digital environments
