Item Gamification elements and the reading comprehension(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Maestría en Pedagogía de los idiomas Nacionales y extranjeros, 2022-03-01) Ramos Flores, Fanny Margarita; Sánchez Sailema, Lina MarielaReading in an adequate way evolves the process to understand the message, to have a comprehensible reading and acquire new knowledge. In recent times, students at the secondary level have reading problems and comprehension and these affect the academic development and learning. This difficulty has been marked in recent years because, having been affected worldwide by the pandemic, students have been required to develop their reading skills, so that the teaching-learning process does not stop and that they can absorb more information, useful for the development of the activities assigned by the teachers in each of the subjects That is the reason why a study was carried out on the elements of gamification and reading comprehension to find out their influence on reading comprehension. The study subjects were First Year Baccalaureate High School students from the Juan León Mera La Salle Institution, from Ambato city. A bibliographic analysis was carried out to obtain information to support the research. The research work was experimental, and a pre-test was applied to determine the level of reading comprehension prior to the study. The gamified activities were applied focused on four gamification elements to develop reading comprehension. Finally, a post test was applied to verify the effectiveness of the gamification elements used and their activities. It is clear thee result of post test with 30,14% reading comprehension in the experimental group, versus 17,81% in the control group with a statistically significant difference, which represents 25% more than the conventional teaching. The results obtained during the research were positive since it has been possible to demonstrate that there is an influence of the elements of gamification within the reading comprehension of the students. The results obtained during the investigation were positive because it has been possible to demonstrate that there is an influence of the elements of gamification within the reading comprehension of the studentsItem Students selected videos in listening comprehension(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestría en Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2018-07) Sánchez Sailema, Lina Mariela; Meléndez Escobar, Lorena MonserrathThe present research is created for the need to improving the listening comprehension in students from the Unidad Educativa Las Américas through the implementation of the use of a platform where students could send and post their selected videos. The education in this school requires more technological devices because the English learning process has to use innovative methods for a good listening comprehension. Actually the use of videos or technological tools are adequate sources for reaching a good listening comprehension. The research is qualitative-proposal because the information was collected through surveys. It showed that the traditional methods make English classes not meaningful and turn unattractive and boring for students causing a low listening comprehension development. For more certain of the research an operationalization of variables was carried out extremely careful based on a widely theoretical framework and with the help of surveys applied to students from the Las Américas School. The same research process has shown the need to find a solution for the problem about the low listening comprehension. The appliance of an interactive platform for the use of students to check and send homework also to post their selected videos and sharing with the entire class in order to improve the listening comprehension. This proposal is a good way to aware the interest to reach meaningful learning in students and it is an effective way to improve the listening comprehension development in students.Item Use of voice recording to enhance fluency in speaking in efl classroom(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Maestría en Pedagogía de los idiomas Nacionales y extranjeros, 2022-03-01) Vega Iza, Jenny Isabel; Sánchez Sailema, Lina MarielaEducation has taken an unexpected turn due to the increase in technological tools, leading teachers to investigate new ways to impart knowledge and at the same time use new strategies to help our students improve their fluency in English. The primary objective of this research was to determine the level of improvement in fluency when speaking in the English as a foreign language classroom through voice recording. The methodology proposed to carry out the present experimentation with 34 students, using quantitative and qualitative research. A pre-test and post-test single-group design were adopted for this study. The students’ problems in fluency in speaking were evaluated using the SPSS statistical program, applying the Statistical Student’s T-test of related tests. Some technological tools were applied for two weeks in classes. At the end of the experimentation, a post-test was carried out, and the results of the study revealed that the students, through voice recordings using technological tools, presented significant improvement in fluency in speaking. The data verified that the students had an average band 1 at the time of the pre-test; however, they improved to band 4 at the time of the post-test. The main findings point out that the use of voice recordings with a technological tool certainly improves fluency in speaking, especially in the way of expressing themselves in English, giving them greater freedom, fluency, and confidence when speaking.
