This document deals with an experimental research, focused on stabilizing one of the layers of the pavement (subgrade) of coarse soil-type, with the addition of Terephthalate polyethylene (PET), Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE) particles. This stabilization is based on the comparative analysis of CBR between subgrade stabilized with PET/PP/PE particles, and subgrade in natural state. To carry out this project, were sampled three representative type of granular soils, located in the parishes of Montalvo, Juan Benigno Vela and Izamba, all of them in Ambato. After that, there was an analysis of tests in situ and laboratory corresponding to: Moisture Content, Field Density, Specific Gravity, Granulometry, Atterberg Limits, Modified Proctor and CBR. In the soil samples of the Proctor and CBR tests, it was added particles of PET/PP/PE in percentages of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. The variations of the maximum dry density, optimum moisture content and CBR values were analyzed, finding optimal stabilization values for each soil sample. As a result, an economical technical comparison was conducted between two flexible pavement designs based on CBR of non-stabilized and stabilized subgrade soils. In this way it was observed the diminution of thicknesses in the layers of the flexible pavement structure for stabilized subgrade and how influences the cost of a road.
