Determinación de la edad gestacional mediante la medición de placentomas en vacas mestizas
(2024-08) Hernández Ocaña, Cynthia Ivette; Carrillo Álvarez, Israel Salomón
The determination of gestational age in cows has been an important tool in reproduction, since a better criterion in relation to gestational age in a cow was evident through the placentomes, seeking to be more efficient when detecting pregnancy. This study was developed at the Universidad Técnica del Norte. That is why exact data were collected from 42-60 days of gestation, measuring length 1.44 +0.38 and width 1.01 +0.25; 61-90 days length 2.29 +0.35, width 1.85 +0.5; 91-120 days length 3.1+0.14 and width 2.29+0.32 and 121-150 days length 3.24+0.10 and width 2.46+0.31. On the other hand, 46 pregnant cows (151-180 days) were also analyzed, length 3.60+0.15 and width 3.07+0.09; 24 pregnant cows (181-210 days) length 4.01+0.43 and width 3.16+0.13; 20 pregnant cows (211-240 days) length 5.23+0.63 and width 3.62+0.5; 25 pregnant cows (241-270 days) length 6.54+0.26 and width 4.99+0.46, in this case only data were taken from the caudal placentome due to the gestation time and the fetus is much more developed, the objective was to determine the age gestational with the measurement of placentomes in cows, it can be concluded that from the data obtained in the different stages of gestation a guide to understand days of gestation and the normal development of the fetus.

The average live weight was 327.26 kg, with males weighing 333.19 kg and females only 186.081 kg; with respect to carcass yield, there was an average of 50.28%, of which 51.30% in males and 28.31% in females. The Spearman correlation statistical analysis was highly significant *** p≤ 0.01 between the variables: phaneroptic (coat color, nose color, hoof color, udder color, presence of umbilical fold and dewlap), body condition and carcass yield of mestizo cattle slaughtered in the Municipal Camal of Ambato. Prevalencia de tricomoniasis en bovinos faenados en el centro de Faenamiento Municipal de Pastaza
(2024-10) Zúñiga Araujo, Solange Danniela; Carrillo Álvarez, Israel Salomón
Bovine trichomoniasis is caused by Tritrichomonas foetus, a protozoan species with wide worldwide distribution, causing a sexually transmitted disease in cattle that causes infertility, abortion and endometritis, postcoital pyometra or fetal maceration. In the present study, the prevalence of bovine trichomoniasis in cattle slaughtered at the Pastaza municipal slaughterhouse were determined. A total of 361 samples were taken from cattle admitted to the "Pastaza Municipal Slaughterhouse" from January to April 2024 from the Pastaza, Mera and Santa Clara municipalities. From these data, information on the relationship between the prevalence of the disease and the age, sex and origin of the animal was obtained. The study was carried out through simple random sampling and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency and percentages. Additionally, the association of the variables sex, age and place of origin of the cattle with the prevalence of trichomoniasis was established through a Spearman correlation (𝜒 2 ). A general prevalence of trichomoniasis of 2.8% was found in cattle slaughtered in the municipal slaughterhouse of Pastaza, observed only in cattle from five parishes of the Pastaza canton with a total of 10 positive cases. No association was found between the sex, age group and place of origin of the cattle and the prevalence of trichomoniasis in this study. Given the importance of trichomoniasis, it is recommended to carry out studies using molecular biology to confirm the presence of the parasite in herds in the area.
