(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y extranjeros, 2024-07-01) Arias Chulco, Lizbeth Stefania; Hernández Freire, Alba Paulina
The present study aims to investigate students' perspectives on Blended Learning for writing skills. A total of 62 Unified General High School students of the Felix Granja Educational Unit (36 males and 26 females) participated in a descriptive, non-experimental research design. Data were collected using a 25-question survey on a Likert scale. The reliability of the survey was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.921) and was also validated by 5 experts. The results revealed that the incorporation of technology, the incorporation of online activities, online resources and learning materials during the classes were very effective for the students due to their interaction. In addition, it was taken into account that the institution did not have full internet connection, which could be a barrier, however, teachers taught their traditional classes and incorporated technology in an appropriate way in the educational environment, but also from home, which shows that it is very effective for the classes. In addition to these online activities, the students also stated that during the English classes the teacher uses different blended learning models such as Enriched Virtual Model, Station-Rotation Model, Self-Blend Model, while some blended learning models are used less frequently. In addition, students employ different strategies to improve writing skill, according to the results the most used strategies are Share Writing Strategy, Guided Writing Strategy, Thinking Talk Text strategy. Finally, it was observed that the writing strategies were favorable to the students as they found them attractive and useful to improve writing skill. Overall, this study provides valuable information about students' preferences and practices in improving writing skill using technology.
