Diseño arquitectónico de centro comunitario ubicado en el barrio Puerto Arturo en el cantón Ambato

Abstract

This final degree project presents the architectural design of a community center in the Puerto Arturo neighborhood, located in the city of Ambato. Its main objective is to respond to the spatial, social, and symbolic needs identified within the community. The project arises from the current deterioration and functional limitations of the existing facility, which have reduced its relevance and use in the daily life of the neighborhood. To address this issue, the proposal is based on a qualitative research approach, supported by interviews, participatory observation, and theoretical review. These tools enabled the development of a comprehensive diagnosis of the site’s condition and the collective aspirations of its users, forming a conceptual and strategic basis that guides the architectural design. The proposed intervention combines technical and social criteria with a contextsensitive design approach. It conserves part of the original structure and expands through a strategy that incorporates principles of sustainability, accessibility, and functional flexibility. The design aims to create an open, inclusive space that integrates harmoniously with its immediate environment. Beyond its specific scope, the project outlines a methodology applicable to other similar contexts, where architecture is understood as a tool for social cohesion. Ultimately, the proposal demonstrates that it is possible to intervene in a socially relevant way when one chooses to design from lived experience, creating spaces of meaning, belonging, and opportunity within the collective environment
