Abstract
Eotetranychus lewisi is an agricultural pest that affects important crops such as peaches, blackberries, strawberries, and citrus fruits. This research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of non-ionizing radiation in controlling this pest. Three radiation intensities (100, 200, and 300 μT) and three exposure times (48, 60, and 72 hours) were applied to E. lewisi eggs, seeking a suitable combination for controlling this pest.
The longevity and development time of the different stages, the mortality rate (observing the most affected stages), and reproductive capacity were analyzed. The
results show that non-ionizing radiation at an intensity of 300 μT for 48 hours is the
most effective in reducing the mite's longevity, shortening its life cycle to 16 days. On the other hand, the application of non-ionizing radiation at an intensity of 100 μT for 48 h resulted in 80% mortality. Furthermore, this treatment had the greatest impact on the mite's reproductive capacity, significantly reducing the oviposition time to 4 days, compared to the 14-day oviposition time observed in the control group. The oviposition rate was 6.75 mite eggs per cycle, an extremely low value compared to the control group's 70.88 eggs. Non-ionizing radiation showed effects on both the survival and reproductive capacity of the mite, making it an efficient alternative for maintaining biological control of E. lewisi..
