Abstract

The strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) is one of the world's most important crops, both economically and nutritionally, with production exceeding 9.1 million tons annually according to the FAO (2023). However, its profitability is affected by the presence of the fungus Podosphaera aphanis, which affects the leaves, flowers, and fruit during the crop's most critical phenological phases. This research was conducted in the Tisaleo Canton to evaluate the effectiveness of two alternative products for managing powdery mildew: Tricho Bio Wg and Ozo Agro. A completely randomized block design (CRBD) with group analysis was used, with six treatments and a control. The percentage of incidence and severity of the pathogen, number of flowers and fruit set, polar and equatorial fruit size, and fruit weight were evaluated. The results showed statistically significant differences between the treatments with the applied product and the control in all variables. Demonstrating that treatment T1D3 with Tricho bio wg at a dose of 10 ml/L showed greater effectiveness in significantly reducing incidence (46.67%) and severity (24.07%), while treatment T1D2 with Tricho bio wg at a dose of 7.5 ml/L stood out in fruit quality variables, achieving higher values between 70% and 80% effectiveness. The control group showed higher incidence (66.67%) and severity (69.67%) with less development in the crop. It is concluded that Tricho bio wg (Trichoderma yunnanense) is a more efficient biological alternative for controlling powdery mildew in strawberries under the agroecological conditions of the Tisaleo canton.
