| dc.description.abstract | The aim of the present study focuses on analysing the available evidence on the effectiveness and safety in the management ofhip fractures in older adults. The PRISMA 2020 methodology (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) was used for this purpose, obtaining the information in scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Web of Science and Google Scholar. In addition, we used Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and search terms in English/Spanish related to the surgical and conservative treatment of hip fractures in older adult patients. Articles published from January 2019 to April2025 with open access and relevant information were included.Initially, 221 articles were found in the search, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 were selected for the present review, which allowed us to fulfil the objective of the research. Hip fractures are a great challenge for the older adult population due to the fact that they cause dependence and high expenditure within the health system. They are related to low bone density and occur more frequently in patients with osteoporosis in the female population, with the established treatment being surgical and conservative, considering the patient as an individual being. The main treatment is surgical, as it allows the patient to reintegrate into society more quickly, whereas conservative treatment takes longer, and an individual assessment is necessary to choose the appropriate treatment. | |
