This research, "Treaty Shopping and Tax Evasion in Ecuador," analyzed treaty shopping as a tax evasion strategy used by multinational companies in Ecuador to minimize taxes. The main objective was to study how this phenomenon impacted tax evasion in Ecuador, with the aim of strengthening controls and preventing its misuse. The research analyzed Ecuadorian tax regulations and international agreements through the study of specialized documents. Additionally, a statistical frequency analysis was used to identify the types of treaty shopping detected. The findings indicated a statistically confirmed relationship between treaty shopping and tax evasion, thus refuting the null hypothesis. Common schemes were identified within this practice that explained reductions in income tax and foreign exchange outflow tax. It was concluded that the excessive use of tax treaties deprived Ecuador of tax sovereignty and generated inequalities in the tax system, therefore emphasizing the need to reform the regulations, incorporate old clauses and checks of economic substance, in order to protect the tax base and promote a fairer tax culture.
