| dc.description.abstract | Globalization has driven the massive circulation of international aesthetics that directly influence fashion, generating processes of visual standardization that weaken local identities. In Riobamba, this phenomenon affects the Diablo de Lata, an emblematic character of the Pase del Niño whose original meaning, rebellious, defiant, and associated with cultural resistance, has been progressively displaced until it has acquired a primarily festive and ornamental role. This symbolic reduction, coupled with the absence of clothing designs that integrate local references into streetwear, limits young people's connection to their cultural heritage. The project was developed using a qualitative approach through interviews with artisans who are bearers of knowledge, visual and material analysis of the Diablo de Lata costume, and focus groups with young streetwear consumers. In addition, the User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology was applied in the design process, along with a textile experimentation phase that incorporated techniques such as fabric slashing, hand printing, fraying, discharge printing, free embroidery, laser engraving, and DTF. The findings show that young people value streetwear design proposals that integrate reinterpreted cultural symbols. The artisans contributed meanings, colors, and formal elements of the character, and the experimental techniques demonstrated aesthetic and functional viability. Finally, the results enabled the design of a streetwear collection for the Lienzo brand that integrates cultural identity and contemporary trends, strengthening the visibility of the Diablo de Lata and providing a competitive offering in the national market. | |
