| dc.description | The research project, titled “Traditional Characters and Tourist Identity: A Case Study of the Corpus Christi Octave Festival in the Sucre Parish,” analyzed the relationship between traditional characters and the construction of tourist identity, aiming to contribute to the appreciation of intangible cultural heritage from a community perspective. The study recognizes the Bull, the Mocho (a man with a missing head), the Cowboy, and the Lavacarera (a woman who washes caricatures) as figures that embody memory, festive symbolism, popular religiosity, agricultural work, social organization, and a sense of belonging. The methodology employed a qualitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and a case study scope. Data was collected through adapted forms from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, life histories, and focus groups with individuals involved in the festival. The study concludes that a direct relationship exists between traditional characters and the tourist identity of Sucre, as these figures translate community memory into recognizable and distinctive symbols capable of projecting an authentic image of the region. Consequently, heritage merchandising is conceived as a cultural dissemination strategy that transforms the symbolic representation of the festival into tourist products with sustainable identity, promotional and community value for the parish | |
