Ciclo económico y sus efectos en los depósitos de ahorros del sistema cooperativista ecuatoriano

Abstract

The fundamental objective of this study is to establish the connection between the economic cycle and savings deposits in the cooperative system of Ecuador. This purpose stems from the significant influence that the financial system of the popular and solidarity economy exerts on the internal economy, by providing financial services to economic agents who face limitations in accessing the conventional financial system. For the development of the methodology, a descriptive statistical analysis is used to understand the change in savings deposits within the cooperative system. Subsequently, the Hodrick-Prescott filter is applied to the economy's gross domestic product data to obtain the economic cycle. Finally, through a vector autoregressive model, the relationship between the economic cycle and the total deposits in the cooperative system is estimated. The statistical analyses show a significant relationship between the economic cycle and savings deposits in the Ecuadorian cooperative system.
