Abstract

The general objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Electroculture on the germination of seeds of the Pietro variety of Kidney Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) by applying different intensities and exposure times to an electric field. The research was conducted using a randomized complete block design in a 3x3+1 factorial arrangement with three replicates. Three exposure times (5, 10, and 20 minutes) were combined with three electric field intensities (400, 600, and 800 μT), in addition to a control group without treatment. The seeds were subjected to an electric field using a plate for 5 days with the respective replicates. Subsequently, physiological and morphological variables were evaluated, including germination percentage at 7 and 14 days, stem length and thickness, root length and volume, and number of leaves. The results showed statistically significant differences in most of the variables evaluated, with treatment T1E3 (5 min – 800 μT) achieving the highest germination percentage at 7 days (60%), while several treatments reached 100% germination at 14 days. Regarding vegetative growth, treatments T2E3 (10 min – 800 μT) and T3E2 (20 min – 600 μT) stood out for promoting greater stem length and thickness, as well as greater root volume. Finally, it was determined that electroculture applied to tomato seeds significantly improves germination and seedling vigor, with treatments using the highest electric field intensity (800 μT) and intermediate or prolonged exposure times (10 to 20 minutes) producing the best physiological and morphological results
