Abstract

Shingles is a viral disease caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which mainly affects older adults and people with weakened immune systems. This pathology is characterized by the appearance of painful skin eruptions and can lead to sev ere complications, such as postherpetic neuralgia. Currently, the prevention of Herpes Zoster has gained importance due to the aging of the population, which increases the risk of develop i ng the disease. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to determine the efficacy and safety of the recombinant vaccine with AS01B in the prevention of Herpes Zoster in older adults in Ecuador, through an exhaustive review of the available scientific literature, in order to include it in the national vaccination schedule and provide relevant information to the medical community. The methodology employed in this literature review included the selection of 30 articles published in various databases, such as PubMed, Cochrane Library and Web of Science using DeCS/M eSH terms and the Boolean operator: (“Herpes Zoster”) AND (“vaccine”), (“Herpes Zoster”) AND (“prevention”), / (“Zoster Herpes”) AND (“epidemiology”) AND (“risk factor's”), (“Herpes Zoster”) AND (“older adults”), (“Herpes Zoster”) AND (“efficacy”) AND (“safety”). The selected articles were evaluated using validated inclusion and exclusion elements.

Description

AND ("vaccine"), ("Herpes Zoster") AND ("prevention"), / (“Zoster Herpes”) AND (“epidemiology”) AND (“Risk factor's”), ("Herpes Zoster") AND ("older adults"), ("Herpes Zoster") AND ("efficacy") AND ("safety").
