Abstract
The purpose of this research is the “Evaluation the agronomic performance of three cucumber (Cucumis Sativus L) varieties under two different environmental conditions in the Panzaleo sector, Cotopaxi Province”, in order to determine which combination of variety and environment yields the best results in terms of fruit quality and productivity. A completely randomized block design with a factorial arrangement (3 x 2) was used, testing the Jaguar, Chaya, and Lisboa varieties in open-field and protected (covered) conditions. The results showed no statistically significant differences in polar diameter, although the Lisboa variety under protected conditions recorded the hidhest value (13.30 cm). For equatorial diameter, fruit weight, and yield, the best performance was also observed in the Lisboa variety under cover, with 4.40 cm, 153 g and 293 kg/ha, respectively. Visual differences in fruit color were observed, influenced by both the variety and the environment, with more intense tones in fruits grown under protected conditions. It is concluded that the protected environment significantly enhances the agronomic development of cucumbers, and the Lisboa variety showed the best overall performance. Therefore, its cultivation is recommended in areas with environmental conditions similar to those of the Panzaleo sector

La presente investigación tiene como propósito la “Evaluación agronómica de tres variedades de pepinillo (Cucumis Sativus L.) en dos ambientes en el sector Panzaleo, Provincia Cotopaxi”, con el fin de determinar la combinación de variedad y ambiente que ofrezca mejores resultados en términos de rendimiento y calidad del fruto. Se empleó un diseño de bloques completamente al azar con un arreglo factorial de (3 x 2), evaluando las variedades Jaguar, Chaya y Lisboa, en condiciones de campo abierto y bajo cubierta. Los resultados indicaron que no se encontraron diferencias estadísticas significativas en el diámetro polar, aunque la variedad Lisboa bajo cubierta presentó el mayor valor (13.30 cm). En cuanto al diámetro ecuatorial, peso del fruto y rendimiento, el mejor desempeño correspondió también a la variedad Lisboa bajo cubierta, con (4.40 cm, 153 g y 293 kg/ha), respectivamente. Además, se observaron diferencias visuales en el color del fruto, influencias tanto por la variedad como por el tipo de ambiente, siendo más intensos los tonos en los frutos cultivados bajo cubierta. Se concluye que el ambiente protegido favorece significativamente el desarrollo agronómico del pepinillo, y que la variedad Lisboa mostró el mejor comportamiento general. Po lo tanto, se recomienda su cultivo en zonas con condiciones similares a las del sector Panzaleo
