Propuesta de Diseño Urbano de un Sistema de Corredores Ecológicos y Espacios de Permanencia: Diseño del Primer Tramo en la Parroquia García Moreno, Pelileo, Ecuador.

Abstract

The urban–architectural design of ecological corridors, viewpoints, and resting areas as a territorial articulation strategy along the San Ildefonso River in García Moreno parish, Pelileo canton, responds to the need to reorganize and enhance this river edge as a structuring element of the territory. The limited availability of public spaces and the weak relationship between the community and its natural environment highlight the need for an integral intervention. The proposal establishes a continuous system of ecological corridors, contemplation nodes, and staying areas aimed at improving pedestrian connectivity, territorial integration, and spatial quality. Sustainability criteria are incorporated through reforestation with native species and green infrastructure, promoting biological connectivity and the restoration of the riparian ecosystem. The project applies Geographic Information Systems to analyze physical conditions, risks, and vegetation cover, ensuring appropriate spatial implementation. The proposal is framed within the Organic Law of Land Use and Management, fostering sustainable development and equitable access to public space. Overall, the project redefines the river edge as a strategic urban infrastructure, generating social, environmental, and territorial benefits for García Moreno while consolidating a replicable model of urban–landscape intervention that integrates nature and the built environment. Furthermore, it enhances the landscape as an identity element, encourages recreational and cultural activities, and improves the quality of life of inhabitants, while promoting local development and sustainable tourism in alignment with current and future territorial dynamics.
