Abstract
This situation could be linked to dysfunctional family dynamics, such as lack of communication, poor parental supervision or the presence of constant conflicts in the home. Family functioning influences both the general wellbeing and the communication of its members; on the other hand, alcohol consumption is a behavior with significant implications for public health and family dynamics. These variables were analyzed in higher education students (N=271), composed of 173 men and 98 women. This research responds to a quantitative model, non-experimental, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional design. The FF-SIL questionnaire and the AUDIT test were applied. The results of Spearman's Rho correlation test did not show a significant correlation between the variables (p=0.107). Regarding family functioning, in half of the participants (49.4%), a moderately functional family was identified. Regarding alcohol consumption, the majority (55.7%) presented a risky consumption. According to the mean, men had a greater tendency to consume alcohol than women in the population studied.
