Abstract
Description
The present research, entitled "Socio-Affective Behavior and Emotional Self-Regulation",
was conducted at General Eloy Alfaro Delgado Educational Institution, located in the city
of Ambato, Tungurahua Province, with the aim of determining the statistical relationship
between socio-affective behavior and emotional self-regulation among high school
students during the year 2026. The study was developed under a mixed-methods
approach, with exploratory, descriptive, and correlational levels, using a non
experimental cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 120 students,
constituting a census study. For data collection, two psychometric instruments were
applied: the Social Skills Scale (EHS) by Gismero and the Emotion Regulation
Questionnaire (ERQ) by Gross and John. The results were analyzed using descriptive
statistics and Spearman’s correlation coefficient, revealing a positive and statistically
significant relationship between the variables (ρ = 0.212; p = 0.020). Consequently, the
alternative research hypothesis was accepted, leading to the conclusion that higher levels
of socio-affective behavior correspond to better levels of emotional self-regulation.
Finally, the findings confirm that socio-affective skills directly influence students’
emotional regulation; therefore, the promotion of socio-emotional education strategies
within the educational context is considered relevant and necessary.
