Abstract
Impulsivity is the predisposition to perform behaviors without thinking about future consequences, even putting their own lives at risk. While, alcohol consumption is a problematic intake, which can negatively affect the health, academic performance, and psychosocial well-being of college students. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between impulsivity and alcohol consumption in college students. The methodology used was quantitative, with a non experimental design with a descriptive level of correlational scope, and cross-sectional, composed of 300 students, 185 women and 115 men between 18 and 25 years of age, selected by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The instruments used were the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BISS-11) and the AUDIT Test. As for the results, the medium level of impulsivity (60.7%) prevailed in the study sample and the low risk level in alcohol consumption (78.7%). No significant differences were found between sex and impulsivity. On the other hand, it is evident thatthere is a very low positive correlation between impulsivity and alcohol consumption, so that the lack of impulse control may lead to the risk of alcohol consumption among university students
