Abstract
competitivo y sostenible.
Description
The overall objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between traditional
craft techniques and tourism products, focusing on leatherwork in the parish of
Quisapincha, and considering these techniques as a tourist attraction in the parish. This
aims to strengthen cultural identity and promote local development. The importance of
this study lies in the need to transform the traditional direct-sales business model into an
experiential tourism offering that adds value to the leatherworkers’ expertise, while
preserving intangible heritage in the face of mass production. The methodology employed
was based on a mixed-methods approach, featuring a non-experimental, cross-sectional
design with a descriptive correlational scope. Visitor surveys were conducted, interviews
were held with master artisans, and technical observation forms were used in workshops
and tanneries. The results showed that tourists have a strong interest in participating in
experiential activities. Additionally, a hybrid production model was identified that
combines manual skill with industrial machinery; however, limitations were found in
signage, infrastructure, and promotion. The findings indicated that leatherwork is central
to Quisapincha’s identity and that implementing a strategy based on hands-on
experiences—such as having visitors create small leather goods—enhances the
destination’s appeal and increases tourist satisfaction. This validates the hypothesis that
promoting traditional craftsmanship has a positive impact on the creation of a competitive
and sustainable tourism product.
