Abstract
The cultivation of Phalaenopsis orchids is a highly valued ornamental activity, but their vegetative development and flowering are often slow and dependent on the use of chemical inputs. In contrast, biostimulants represent a sustainable alternative. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of two alternative biostimulants at different doses on Phalaenopsis hybrids grown under cover, evaluating their influence on vegetative and floral variables. The experiment was conducted in Querochaca (Tungurahua), using a Completely Randomized Design with a 2×2 factorial arrangement plus a control. Two alternative biostimulants were evaluated: B1: Molasses + raw milk + folic acid, B2: Brown sugar + egg white + folic acid. Each was applied at two doses and compared to a commercial control (Ergostim®). Results: The vegetative variables, number of leaves and leaf length, did not show statistically significant differences between treatments. However, the length of the floral rachis did show highly significant differences. Treatment B2D2 (2 g of brown sugar + 2 mL of egg white + 10 mg of folic acid) resulted in the greatest average rachis length (5.64 cm), surpassing both the control and the other treatments. The time to rachis emergence did not show statistically significant differences, although variations between 34 and 48 days were observed, with B2D2 also exhibiting the shortest emergence time. The alternative biostimulants did not generate significant changes in the evaluated vegetative variables; however, they did influence reproductive development, especially the formation of floral rachises. Treatment B2D2 proved to be the most efficient, exhibiting a superior biostimulant effect even compared to the commercial product. The combination of amino acids, B vitamins, and minerals present in this biostimulant promoted floral vigor and shoot emergence.
