Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the strategy of describing picture
strategy on the development of speaking ability in second semester students (level A2) of the
English Language Center. A pre-experimental research design with a quantitative approach was
used. A total of 59 university students participated in this study, of which 30 belonged to the
control group and 29 to the experimental group. Assessment was carried out using pre-tests and
post-tests based on the KET exam, focusing specifically on the oral sections, parts one and two.
Additionally, a rubric was used to evaluate oral skills, focusing on three criteria: grammar and
vocabulary, pronunciation, and interactive communication. The intervention lasted four weeks,
covering eight sessions dedicated to teaching the English language focused on developing oral
skills. Additionally, various physical and technological resources were used, corresponding to
each topic of the Envolve A2 textbook. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS and
Wilcoxon test to verify the hypothesis. The data obtained from the pre-test and post-test were
evaluated based on the three Cambridge criteria for oral competence. The study concluded that
teaching based on image description had a statistically significant impact on the development
of oral subskills, specifically in terms of students' fluency, coherence, and communicative
interaction. Each activity was designed with a communicative approach, requiring participants
to express opinions on various topics to convey clear and concise messages.
