Abstract
The present study aims to analyze the relationship between phubbing and relationship
satisfaction among young university students in the city of Ambato. Phubbing, a term that
combines the words phone and snubbing, describes the practice of ignoring one's partner by
paying attention to the cell phone, a behavior that has become relevant in the dynamics of
current interpersonal relationships. Partner satisfaction, on the other hand, refers to the
individual perception of acceptance, affection, quality of interaction and fulfillment of
common objectives. The methodological approach was quantitative, allowing an objective
measurement of the presence of phubbing and its impact on happiness within the relationship.
Validated instruments such as the Phubbing scale and the Relationship Appraisal Scale (RAS)
were applied under a bibliographic and field research design. The sample consisted of 312
couples, selected from a population of 23,136 university students. The results indicate that
44.11% of the participants show moderate use of the cell phone, 30.63% show high levels of
dependence, while 25.26% maintain controlled use. At a general level, high levels of
satisfaction in couple relationships are observed; however, correlation analyses reveal that the
higher the frequency of phubbing, the lower the perceived satisfaction, mainly affecting
communication, trust and emotional connection. Of note is the significant inverse correlation
with the factor “regret” (ρ = -0.95; p = 0.05), suggesting negative effects on the quality of the
relationship. In conclusion, phubbing represents a risk factor that can deteriorate the quality
of couple relationships in young university students, making it necessary to raise awareness
about the responsible use of technology in affective contexts.
Description
A nivel general,
