Descripción : The purpose of the study was to examine the incidence of foreign remittances in financial development, focusing on the Ecuadorian banking sector. Therefore, quantitative data collected from secondary sources for the quarterly period 2007.I2020.IV were used. The applied method consisted of descriptive analysis to examine the behavior of the variables, through the disaggregation of remittances and calculation of two indicators of financial deepening, to culminate with an explanatory diagnosis using two OLS models including other control measures, such as GDP per capita, Investment (FBKF) and Inflation. The results indicate that on average the amount of remittances was 690,359 thousand dollars with a variation of 0.14 percent, sent mainly by the American and European continent, and countries such as the United States, Spain and Italy, going especially to the Sierra and Costa region and to the provinces of Guayas, Azuay and Pichincha, showing an average participation of 4.38 percent in GDP. On the other hand, the deepening indices showed that credit and deposits with respect to national income were 23.97 and 55.29 percent respectively. Finally, the statistically significant influence of remittances, an exogenous variable of interest, and other control variables such as investment and inflation was identified with respect to the progress of the banking sector, accepting the alternative hypothesis of the study.
