The present work has made it possible to assess a new alternative for the treatment of wastewater generated by the slaughtering center rates, on the basis of the design and construction of a prototype of the biofilter using the crushed brick as a filtering material. This method is relatively cheap and economical, at the same time the construction of the model and the maintenance do not need a high cost. The process started with the construction of the model through, a support structure, hydraulic installations, container of filter material (crushed brick). The functinging of the model of the biofilter begins with filling of the Reservoir of 55 gal with waste water from the Slaughtering Rates center Tena, which passes through the prototype and remain in a period of three months of oparation in order to evaluate the performance of the crushed bricks and determine its efficiency to reduce pollutants. Making ten chemical analysis of samples of the filtered waste water can evaluate the parameters of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD5 (biochemical oxygen demand) and ST (Total) to determine the reduction of contamination that is initially present. The samples of the analysis were carried to the the Quality Control Laboratory of the Municipal Company of Drinking Water and Sewerage system of Ambato EP-EMAPA. The result that for the BOD5 concentration have decreased by 45.59% in relation to the non-filtered water, thus maintaining lower concentrations to 450mg/l, for the parameter COD concentrations below 1400mg/l with an average efficiency of the filter for the 50.29% and for the ST parameter analyzed, evidence concentrations lower than 1300mg/l, with an average efficiency of the filter with crushed bricks of 44.72%.es_ES
