This research focuses on the analysis and use of denim waste generated in textile workshops, with the aim of evaluating its technical and productive feasibility for the manufacture of handmade footwear in Tungurahua. Handcrafted footwear is a strategic productive sector that mainly uses leather and synthetic materials, so the incorporation of denim scraps represents a sustainable alternative that provides environmental, economic, and cultural value. The work is justified by the problem identified in textile workshops, where between 15 and 50 kilograms of denim scraps are generated each month, most of which are discarded, incinerated, or stored without sorting. This waste has a weight of between 11 and 14 ounces and technical characteristics suitable for reuse, so its use can reduce environmental impact and strengthen the circular economy in the region. The methodology applied included semi-structured interviews with textile workshops, shoemakers, and experts in the field, as well as technical observation sheets. The results showed that the material is available, artisans are willing to use it, and denim is compatible with artisanal processes such as patchwork, module creation, vivid textures, braiding, and mixing with other materials. Likewise, a growing market interest in sustainable products was identified. Finally, the proposal developed proposes sustainable design strategies to integrate denim waste into footwear components, reinforcing the artisanal identity and promoting production models aligned with sustainability and the circular economy

This research analyzes the role of strategic design within the APROCALZA Association, with the aim of proposing a operative model that integrates design into the business management of the footwear industry. Based on a qualitative approach, interviews with managers, surveys with designers and entrepreneurs, as well as comparative matrices and hierarchical models, were applied to assess the level of design maturity in member companies. The results show that although design is recognized for its impact on competitiveness and brand differentiation, its implementation remains limited. 75% of designers report that they are only occasionally considered in strategic decision-making, and the same percentage of companies combine digital tools with manual processes, indicating partial digitalization. Additionally, most design ideas originate from external references or existing products, which restricts innovation. Through data analysis and triangulation, key barriers were identified, such as the lack of investment in design and innovation, and the absence of specialized training. Based on these findings, an operational model is proposed, addressing key pillars such as continuous training, digital transformation, sustainability, brand identity, and the integration of design into the organizational structure. This study highlights design as a strategic tool for the development of the sector and offers actionable pathways that can be adapted by similar production-oriented organizations across the country.

Craftsmanship is truly one of many cultural expressions that in many Ecuadorean towns have been a major source of income locally, nationally and specially for the Kichwa community in the Ecuadorean Amazon. Over the years Artisans have been able to develop their trade from designer roles all through production and distribution, something is almost impossible to sustain due to contemporary traditions. In a globalised world where we have allowed culture acceptance and acceptance of tendencies, along with the such we allowed a loss of local identity, one of the many reasons the designs through out time have become an emerging discipline that connects two into a more beneficial discipline in many levels. These were set as a main stepping stone to identify two meeting points, between interior design, and craftsmanship as a strategy for cultural revaluation. This would allow a take off into a list of strategies, pointing to micro-strategies which properly links and relates to the matter. For that, we begging pointing out the severe importance within the analysis of the craftsmanship expressions of the kichwa culture/community, a culture which have a lost their value throughout the years for a number of reasons and factors, some of them even came to realisation through the development and use of tools of investigation such as ‘ethnography’, questionnaires, picture diaries, etc. It is also important to point out other forms of intervention of the interior design towards craftsmanship to obtain evidence as to why the mentioned meeting points A + D are to be taken into consideration. All of this to lead to determining related strategies linking to the artisans, craftsmanship and interior design, and ultimately a revaluation of the Kichwa culture so that one way or another this would allow us to achieve some sort of strategy to guide us and allow us to use it as a tool for interior designers and in some sort benefit the craftsman of the Kichwa culture/community. The research presented, promotes the inter-disciplinary or multi-skill that the academy needed. Where students would leave behind a monkey see-monkey doo behaviour in terms of following a repeated, overly used design and model and become true promoters of designs that are to be explore. Designs that this society thirst of it.

In the global village where general criteria of valuation, rescue that involve the traditions and culture that pro of a renewed craftsmanship, that make it a subtle, peaceful and contemporary trend that begins to echo in small and vast cultural circles like social. This discernment about craftsmanship as a constituent element of the history of humanity, which is current in the current context with different realities in Ecuador, frames the beginning of our research. Where information is researched and contrasted to demonstrate that "Integrate design in the artisanal environment of the city for the improvement of processes and products through experiences based on co-design" is achievable. The research with a methodology of qualitative approach with a field research and supported by a bibliographic mode showed that the artisan has a wrong concept regarding the designer in search of a collaboration and technical knowledge based on the mold, in addition it is verified that the artisan is degrading to the scenario of simple duplicator destroys its essence and becomes a bare operator. On the part of the designer it was found that a training promotes clear concepts that are necessary for the rescue of traditions and culture that are on the verge of disappearance, in search of a product that promotes a sustainable reality, social values, better economic conditions for all its actors. The promotion of participatory artisan-designer meetings in search of a craftsmanship with design that promotes innovation is transcendental, which is achieved with the incorporation of technology and improvement in the design processes, which are vital for the development of a proposal where prime collaborative work, with a high degree of altruism so that two-way learning occurs, with it the product will have a new market with a concept that can be taken towards sustainability, valuing manual craft work with clear signs of identity and belonging . The connection between the artisan and designer must be sequential, prioritizing the contribution that each one, the artisan seeks knowledge about the reality of the design that can be developed and facilitated by the designer as a communication bridge for collaboration.
