This integrative project aims to design a modular gerontological residential system in the parish of Santa Rosa, Ambato canton, focused on providing care and accommodation for older adults living in conditions of poverty, abandonment, and social vulnerability. The research responds to the growing challenges generated by population aging and the lack of specialized infrastructure capable of ensuring adequate living conditions, health care, safety, and social inclusion for this priority population group. The study identifies significant social and housing deficiencies affecting older adults in Santa Rosa, including poverty, inadequate housing conditions, limited family support networks, and restricted access to specialized services. Furthermore, the existing facilities intended for elderly care do not meet the technical standards required for comprehensive gerontological assistance, resulting in barriers related to accessibility, comfort, health care, social interaction, and residential support. The methodological approach combined documentary research, regulatory analysis, interviews with professionals involved in elderly care, architectural case studies, and territorial assessment of the selected site. These methods enabled the establishment of design guidelines based on the physical, emotional, and social needs of older adults, while considering the environmental and urban characteristics of the context. The proposed architectural solution is based on principles of modular architecture, universal accessibility, environmental comfort, flexibility, and integration with nature. The project includes residential, administrative, complementary care, and service modules organized through a functional system that promotes autonomy, social interaction, and active aging. Green areas, therapeutic spaces, and community environments are incorporated to enhance physical health, emotional well-being, and social participation.

Garcia Moreno parish, Pelileo canton, Tungurahua province, records 749 elderly people aged 65 and over 9.23% of its total population facing multidimensional vulnerability: 45.3% live in poverty, most live alone as a consequence of youth migration, and the parish lacks any specialized facility for the care of this group. This situation generates severe social isolation, accelerated physical deterioration and absence of specialized health services within a radius of less than 12 kilometers. For this reason, the research is justified by providing an architectural response to a documented and unmet social need. The absence of specialized infrastructure in García Moreno makes the Community Care Center the first facility of its kind in the Pelileo canton, with its headquarters in the García Moreno parish. The project contributes to the territorial planning of the PDOT (2023), to the objectives of the MIES (2024) for comprehensive elderly care, and to the rights agenda of the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador. The research adopts a qualitative phenomenological approach. Semi-structured interviews were applied to elderly adults (n=5), the parish GAD representative (n=1), health professionals (n=2) and specialist architects (n=2), complemented by fifteen direct observation sheets in community activities. Information was processed in Atlas.ti 26, identifying six emerging categories. A comparative territorial analysis of ten candidate plots determined plot T8 in Chumaqui as the optimal location for the project implementation. The preliminary design proposes a 2,220 m² Community Reception Center, with capacity for 37 residential places and 30–40 day users, organized on three levels that take advantage of the site's topography. The organizing concept is the U-shaped, biophilic central courtyard, which acts as a passive thermal regulator, a source of natural light, and a space for social interaction. The project integrates universal accessibility, therapeutic architecture, and passive bioclimatic design principles, responding to the needs documented in the fieldwork.

This research project proposes the architectural design of a neuro-inclusive Child Development Center (CDC) in Huachi Grande Parish, Ambato Canton, aimed at providing comprehensive care for children aged 1 to 5 years with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and typical neurodevelopment. The proposal arises from the need for specialized spaces that promote cognitive, sensory, emotional, and social development during early childhood, a fundamental stage for learning and the acquisition of future skills. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, supported by a bibliographic review, the study of architectural precedents, territorial diagnosis, and the identification of neuro-inclusive design criteria. These elements enabled the establishment of guidelines focused on creating safe, accessible, and stimulating environments adapted to users’ needs. The architectural proposal integrates principles of universal accessibility by incorporating flexible spaces, controlled natural lighting, adequate ventilation, sensory areas, therapeutic courtyards, and intuitive circulation routes that enhance spatial orientation and reduce overstimulation. In addition, a strong connection with nature is promoted through green areas and outdoor interaction spaces. As a result, the project proposes an educational and therapeutic facility that contributes to the holistic development of children, strengthens inclusion processes, and responds to the current needs of the community, becoming an innovative architectural alternative for early childhood care in Ambato Canton.

This graduation project focuses on the need to improve care conditions for people with disabilities in rural areas of Ecuador, due to persistent gaps in accessibility, infrastructure, and the availability of specialised services. In the parish of Huambaló, these limitations restrict rehabilitation processes, autonomy, and social inclusion, highlighting the importance of developing facilities that comply with universal accessibility standards and promote overall well-being. The methodology was structured according to Raffaelli’s project-based approach, combining documentary review, regulatory analysis, and interviews with experts in architecture directed towards health and well-being, together with a technical survey of the site and a functional analysis of the San José de Huambaló Foundation for People with Disabilities. This methodological integration made it possible to understand the real needs of the users and to establish coherent design criteria for creating spaces for people with disabilities. The study is framed within the research line of inclusive architecture and therapeutic design, aimed at generating spaces that promote sensory well-being, functional autonomy, and connection with the natural environment. As its main contribution, the research proposes the design of a Therapeutic Ambulatory Centre that incorporates principles of universal accessibility, an interdisciplinary approach, and strategies for interacting with the environment to strengthen therapeutic processes.

This thesis develops the architectural proposal for an Active Recreation Center for Older Adults in the canton of Cevallos, based on a comprehensive methodological process that incorporates theoretical, legal, and historical frameworks as key foundations for the project. The study addresses the increasing demographic aging and the lack of inclusive recreational infrastructure, identifying the need for spaces that promote autonomy, social participation, and intergenerational coexistence. Through a qualitative methodological approach, the research integrates documentary review, territorial analysis, case study evaluation, semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis. These techniques enable a deep understanding of the physical, social, and cultural dynamics surrounding the older adult population, as well as the identification of functional, morphological, and contextual needs relevant to the design of specialized recreational spaces. The proposal is supported by the paradigm of community architecture, which prioritizes human scale, spatial coherence, and social integration within the built environment. Based on this framework, the study establishes architectural strategies that address composition, functionality, contextual integration, and environmental sustainability, resulting in a coherent architectural parti aligned with local territorial conditions and the needs of the older population. The outcome is a preliminary architectural design that organizes zones for recreation, learning, productive activities, and community encounter, articulated through accessible circulations and bioclimatic strategies. The project becomes a replicable model for small and medium-sized cantons seeking to strengthen the quality of life of older adults through inclusive, culturally rooted, and socially cohesive architectural interventions.

The present work develops the architectural design of an Integral Center for Older Adults in the parish of Pishilata, in the city of Ambato, addressing the lack of municipal facilities specialized for this age group. The Ambato PDOT identifies a critical deficit in infrastructure for gerontological care services, which justifies the need for an architectural proposal that ensures accessibility, comprehensive care, and quality of life. The research is based on a qualitative and descriptive approach. Techniques such as documentary analysis, semi-structured interviews with professional staff, and comparative review of architectural precedents were employed. This process made it possible to identify the theoretical foundations of geronto-architecture, the evolution of residential models, the principles of universal design, and the essential spatial criteria for the physical, psychological, and social well-being of users. The results show that gerontological architecture must prioritize the creation of domestic, inclusive, and adaptable environments, avoiding institutionalized models and promoting residential micro-communities. Based on these criteria, the architectural proposal is organized into three functional modules: a public module for daytime care, a semi-public service module, and a private module composed of residential units that operate as small communities. The design strategy incorporates ramp-based circulation, natural lighting, habitable thresholds, and therapeutic gardens. Thus, the project represents an integral and feasible response to improve elder care in the city, offering a functional and human-centered solution supported by technical, social, and gerontological criterio.

The Ecuadorian education system faces significant challenges in school infrastructure, particularly in the Amazon region, where the humid climate and lack of investment are causing rapid deterioration of facilities. The Camilo Huatatoca Intercultural Bilingual Community Educational Unit (UECIB) exhibits obsolescence, serious structural flaws, and functional deficiencies that limit educational quality, accessibility, and the well-being of its users. The objective was to design an architectural proposal to improve the spatial and functional conditions of the Camilo Huatatoca UECIB (Unit for the Study of Bilingual Education) in the Santa Clara canton (Pastaza province), based on principles of spatial flexibility, adaptability to the context, and bioclimatic architecture. A qualitative methodology was employed, combining documentary and field research at a descriptive and exploratory level. The techniques used included a document review, the application of architectural survey forms to assess the physical condition of the infrastructure, and semi-structured interviews. The results identified multifactorial deterioration in the existing infrastructure, including structural failures and welfare issues. The lack of specialized spaces and universal accessibility systems was confirmed. It was concluded that understanding the spatial dynamics and cultural memory of the UECIB Camilo Huatatoca community was crucial for developing a proposal that addresses the physical deterioration and validates the need to build upon existing community practices. The final architectural proposal integrates a diverse functional program, appropriate morphological solutions, and community participation criteria, ensuring accessibility, comfort, and a strengthened sense of community belonging.

This research project addresses a highly relevant and contemporary issue: the need to improve urban accessibility through the use of sustainable materials, considering that cities such as Baños de Agua Santa lack tactile paving systems essential for the safe mobility of visually impaired individuals. This challenge is intensified by the local humid climate, which demands resistant and durable materials with adequate performance under moisture exposure. At the same time, the province of Tungurahua generates significant quantities of industrial metallic waste that is not properly utilized, presenting an opportunity to strengthen circular economy practices and reduce environmental impact. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach with an experimental design. The applied methodology included the collection and sieving of metallic shavings, their incorporation in different dosages within a cementitious matrix, and the fabrication of tactile concrete pavers subjected to compressive strength and indirect tensile tests. The research line corresponds to Design, Materials, and Production. The results indicate that it is feasible to develop an eco-efficient composite material using industrial metallic waste in specific proportions, achieving improved mechanical performance and reducing environmental footprint. The final proposal consists of a sustainable and functional tactile paving element suitable for the climatic conditions of Baños, contributing both to universal accessibility and to responsible management of industrial waste. This represents an innovative and replicable solution for similar urban contexts.

Population aging is one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century. According to the WHO (2025), the world's population over 60 years of age, which stood at 1 billion in 2020, will exceed 2.1 billion by 2050, of which approximately 426 million will be over 80 years old. The Sucre parish, in the Patate canton, reflects this trend, highlighting the need to implement a gerontological center that addresses the gaps identified in the parish's Territorial Development Plan (PDOT) and in the canton's planning instruments. This research is conducted using a qualitative approach with an exploratory scope and descriptive components. It analyzes the human, social, and spatial factors that influence the quality of life of older adults through observation of the environment, interviews with key stakeholders, document review, and analysis of theoretical and architectural references. The combined application of these techniques allows for the identification of needs, limitations, and potential within the context. The project proposes the architectural design of a Gerontological Day Center in the Sucre parish, focused on the well-being of older adults through the creation of inclusive, accessible, and therapeutic spaces. The facility is strategically located, with easy access and connections to existing amenities, and adapts to the topography and climatic conditions through a low-rise building organized around a central courtyard. The proposal incorporates criteria for universal accessibility, sustainability, and environmental comfort, integrating cross ventilation, solar control, visual connection with the landscape, and the use of local materials with efficient construction systems. Functionally, the complex is structured in blocks that group administrative, medical, therapeutic, social, and service areas, promoting active aging and strengthening community integration in a dignified and stimulating environment.

This study develops a sustainable urban mobility plan for the center of the canton of Quero with the aim of improving accessibility, road safety, and the quality of public spaces. To this end, a comprehensive assessment of the current situation was carried out, which made it possible to identify problems. Next, through the examination of documents and the analysis of reference cases, sustainable urban mobility strategies adapted to the local context were selected, including road hierarchy and direction, optimization of public transport, tree planting along roads, parking regulation, and improvement of pedestrian and road infrastructure. Based on these strategies, a series of standard designs were developed for different types of roads: avenues, secondary streets, local streets, and alleys, incorporating elements such as safe crossings, barrier-free sidewalks, regulated parking areas, and adequate roadside trees. The resulting proposal consolidates a safer, more efficient, and pedestrian-oriented road system and promotes walkable and sustainable environments that improve the environmental and functional quality of the urban center
