A garment loaded with a cultural meaning that, with the passage of time, has had less visibility and recognition among the new generations. Therefore, from a design perspective, it was decided to create a collection of women's clothing that reinterprets this male garment with the purpose of revaluing this garment within a contemporary context. The research is based on a qualitative methodology, which articulates the bibliographic review with the field work through semi-structured interviews directed to key people such as the taytas of the Chibuleo people, the artisan who makes the poncho and clients of the Wiñay company. This strategy allowed gathering traditional knowledge, cultural perceptions and preferences of the target public, in order to base an identity design process. The findings obtained show both the symbolic richness of the red poncho and its potential for reinterpretation in current design proposals, fostering a link between tradition and innovation, this project becomes relevant by proposing clothing with cultural meaning, contributing both to the identity strengthening of the Chibuleo people and to the recognition of the red poncho inside and outside the town.
