Introduction: Administration of medications via nasogastric tube is common practice in clinical settings, but can present challenges and risks if not performed appropriately. Objective: The objective of this article is to analyze the recommendations for the safe and effective administration of medications by nasogastric tube. Method: To achieve this objective, a systematic review of the relevant scientific literature was carried out, following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Original studies, clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses published between 2019 and 2023 in English and Spanish are included. Results: The results of this systematic review provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for the safe and effective administration of medications by nasogastric tube. Key practices were identified that can improve the safety of this procedure and reduce associated risks. Conclusion: The administration of medications through a nasogastric tube is an important practice in the care of patients who cannot take drugs orally.
