This experimental work arises due to the lack of studies involving carbon fibers as reinforcement for concrete and its influence on the compressive stress, so, this research compares the compressive stress between a group of cylinders made with simple concrete and with another made of the same type of concrete, but reinforced with a carbon fiber coating, in order to analyze the benefits of the use of the fiber. The research is experimental, because I compare two groups of concrete cylinders by applying compression tests based on ASTM C39 and NTE INEN 1573 standards. The tests were carried out with a total of 30 cylinders designed for a compressive stress of 210 Kg per square centimeter using the "Optimum Density" method of the Central University of Ecuador. Positive results were achieved with respect to compressive stress, showing that carbon fiber reinforced concrete increases the compressive stress, obtaining an increment of 16.11 percent at 7 days, 17.04 percent at 14 days, 17.94 percent at 21 days and 18.01 percent at 28 days, compared with the traditional concrete, proving that it is feasible to use carbon fiber as a compressive reinforcement in concrete.
