The glucose, serum denominated dextrose solution in water that is applied in intravenous way has been used for a long time to treat the loss of fluids and to give caloric contribution to the organism, nevertheless the administration in patients can have effects in the serum levels of sodium and potassium electrolytes. The present study is to determine the effects of the 5% dextrose administration on serum sodium and potassium electrolyte levels in adult patients between 40 and 65 years of age at Hospital Yerovi Mackuart. With these data, a comparison and analysis of the results obtained in the tests that were performed in patients who entered the emergency ÁREA for different reasons was made. The serum sodium and potassium values were compared before and after the administration of isotonic glucose solution. These results were correlated with physiopathological factors modifying serum electrolyte concentrations. With this information, the statistical analysis is carried out, supported by the clinical history of each of the patients, which is tabulated and analyzed in a technical manner.
