Mg.Is important to recognizing a frail older adult lies in the possibility of designing prevention measures with the aim of decreasing the short and long term morbidity and mortality rates in gerontological centers, so recent studies suggest that the speed of walking has a close correlation with this syndrome and adverse events in the future constituting it as a diagnostic method not only practical but also reproducible itself that distinguishes a frail older adult. The research according to the study method is of a transversal and descriptive type. Also quantitative since the Short Physical Performance Battery test (SPPB) is used to obtain the statistical data and the cut-off point of the speed of the walk. The study was conducted at the Gerontological Center Life to the Years in Ambato city. The line of research is epidemiology and public health. It is concluded that a walking speed less than 0.72 m / s is an indicator of frailty in older adults of the aforementioned gerontological center.
