Item “Soledad y deterioro cognitivo”(Universidad Técnica de Ambato - Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud - Carrera de Psicología Clínica, 2018-03-01) Ortiz Mayorga, Liliana Del Rocío; Valencia Cepeda, María Cristina Ps. Cl. Mg.The main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between loneliness and cognitive impairment in older adults who are institutionalized. This study is of a correlational type, allowing a statistical analysis for the verification of hypotheses. We considered a sample of 40 elderly people who regularly attend in the same way those who reside in the Integral Center for the Elderly of the Ambato GAD, where two psychological tests were applied for adults, the ESTE-R Scale to identify the types and levels of loneliness that predominate and Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test (MoCA) with which the presence of cognitive impairment in older adults is identified. Once the evaluation was carried out, the results were quantified using the statistical program for social sciences SPSS through the Pearson r test, determining that loneliness is related to cognitive deterioration in 2 of its 4 dimensions, such as family loneliness. (R = 0.574 ** p <0.01) and conjugal loneliness R = 0.359 * p <0.05), with conjugal loneliness as the highest prevalence. It is recommended to work with cognitive psychotherapy to reduce feelings of loneliness and cognitive rehabilitation programs to prevent the progress of this disease.
