MANEJO DEL CATÉTER PERCUTÁNEO EN LA UNIDAD DE CUIDADOS INTENSIVOS NEONATALES UCIN
(2025-06-17) Mazabanda Chisag Silvia Maribel; Quishpe Jara Graciela de las Mercedes; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de Enfermería
Introduction The peripherally inserted percutaneous catheter allows access to a peripheral central vein, being the main choice in the NICU in premature and full-term newborns, guaranteeing therapeutic continuity from the possibility of administering higher concentration solutions and long-acting medications. Objective To describe the correct management of the percutaneous catheter in a neonate patient within the intensive care unit (NICU). Methodology A qualitative, descriptive, prospective bibliography review study with a non-experimental design, with emphasis on: when its use is indicated, its benefits, complications, and nursing care. Result and discussion the insertion of the percutaneous catheter in the NICU has the purpose of providing treatments that the RN with a critical diagnosis permanently requires. In addition, the role of nursing is essential for its implementation; the staff must be qualified with updated knowledge and skills to avoid complications and infections. Although the insertion and maintenance of the percutaneous catheter are more complex than the peripheral one, studies show that the advantages of the percutaneous catheter are the stability, nutrition and duration of the device since it reduces the trauma of performing unnecessary, repetitive punctures and changes in less time. Conclusions The percutaneous catheter is a venous access that facilitates the fluid therapy necessary for the newborn, for which the role of nursing together with the health team must guarantee a safe and complication-free venous access.
