    Introduction: Within the surgical area, numerous activities are carried out that can generate certain levels of stress in health personnel. In this case, the nursing staff who is affected directly or indirectly in the performance of their daily functions due to the fact that it demands great responsibility in terms of surgical practice to maintain a balance between the well-being of the patient and their own. Objective: to explain the level and stress factors of the nursing staff in the surgical area. Methods: a descriptive bibliographic review was carried out in the different scientific databases: Google scholar, Medline, PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo, Redalyc, Elsiever, through the DECS: work stress, surgical nursing, nursing. Results: Most of the articles consulted agreed that the stress levels experienced by nursing professionals in the surgical area are high, due to an imbalance between individual and professional factors, the inappropriate work environment and excessive workload stand out. It is essential to highlight the importance of the well-being of health personnel in order to improve work performance, achieving a professional-patient balance, thus guaranteeing an optimal development of their activities within the hospital area. Conclusions: The stress levels in the nursing staff are high in the surgical area, a situation that generates physical and emotional fatigue not only to the staff who work for a certain time, but also to the new professionals, where it significantly affects the health and performance of their patients. functions.
