    Valoración de la aplicación y cumplimiento de la estrategia AIEPI , por los médicos de atención primaria en el tratamiento de enfermedad diarreica aguda en niños menores de 5 años

    The AIEPI strategy is an instrument used for the treatment of acute diarrheal disease. This pathology continues to be one of the most frequent reasons for consultation in the first level of care and its prevalence continues to be high among children under 5 years of age. The objective of this research is to assess compliance with the AIEPI strategy by primary care physicians in acute diarrheal disease. Medical records of children under 5 years of age from the rural area were taken in the period of one year who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria to be analyzed and statistically interpreted. The results found in compliance with the strategy is that in 76% of the cases it is applied adequately and completely in the area studied. However, there are shortcomings to consider among the most important: the absence of zinc prescription, use of antiparasitics and analgesics, and lack of follow-up control. It is concluded that the AIEPI strategy is the most used instrument in the first level of care in the Tungurahua parish, but some modifications should be made regarding its prescription.
