This research project sought to create a 3D video game using the Unity graphics engine to help students of the Software Engineering career of the Faculty of Computer, Electronics and Industrial Engineering of the Universidad Técnica de Ambato in the foundations of programming. The initiative focused on the problem of limited access to programming education among Ecuadorian primary and secondary school students, which causes a lack of knowledge as a basis for university entry, as well as the lack of quantitative and qualitative data on the video game development market in the country. The effectiveness of the game-based learning approach compared to conventional teaching methods was evaluated. The theoretical foundation examined educational video games, design principles and gameplay components, emphasizing their active and participatory character, their ability to adapt to the student's skill level, and their potential to offer immersive 3D experiences. Through pilot tests were evaluated the effectiveness, feasibility and usability of educational video games, these evaluations resulted in an acceptance of more than 80%. In conclusion, creating a 3D educational video game with Unity has great potential for improving student learning. Gamification techniques and social media integration further increase student participation. This research project contributes to the field of educational video game development and creates opportunities for future collaborations and advances in the fields of teaching programming, gamification, and educational software development.
