    Falling into credit risk inherentpart of financial intermediation, however, the effective management of this risk that financial intermediries carry out is fundamental for institutional viability and sustained growth. If the risks are not controlled, especially credit risk, it can lead to insolvency. However,oftenis the case that a basic perception of a high credit risk can dissuade financial intermediaries from making incursions in a determined segment of the market, when an important contributary factor to this perception is the lack of adecuate evaluative and risk management techniques. This seems to be the case of the cooperative sector of Ambato, establishing a particular case in the Savings an Credit Cooperative “Mushuc Runa” Cia. Ltda. Especially with reports to the credits awarded to small and medium businesses, as well as producers in the agricultural sector sector with respect to the defaults that these sectors are incurring.
