To study the dynamic behavior of buildings is instrumented to determine some of its dynamic characteristics. For the same purpose, fundamental frequency analysis of the structure is carried out, since it is an efficient, fast and economical process to verify its stability and dynamic response to the presence of an earthquake. In a study on the measurement of own periods in buildings, the main objectives of the analysis of the dynamic response of buildings are presented using the fundamental frequency through the inelastic drift of building floor. Recent earthquake crisis (Kobe, Armenia, Turkey, Taiwan, Mexico, Ecuador) has once again demonstrated the enormous destructive capacity of earthquakes, which is almost instantaneously produced, this huge threat to civil society depends on the seismic hazard, which is defined as the probability of occurrence of an earthquake of determined size and properties and on which we can not act, but also depends on the vulnerability of buildings, their dynamic response, their inability to resist the actions of an earthquake. Therefore, the direct effects of an earthquake on people are conditioned by the quality of the buildings in which they reside or develop their work. Despite the technological advances and experiences of previous seismic crises, the huge accumulation of population in large cities, the unpredictability and urgency of building, and the poor dynamical behavior of some of the built buildings, increase the number of victims caused by earthquakes. The structural analysis of an irregular 5-story building, and the use of the structural elements necessary to stabilize and control the building drift, analyzed the relationship that exists with the fundamental frequency of the structure. Due to the incidence of seismic loads in Ecuador with the results of the force-based design (DBF) of the Ecuadorian standard of construction NEC 2015.
