Ansiedad y riesgo suicida en estudiantes universitarios
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Psicología Clínica, 2023-09-18) Carrera Arias, Diana Micaela; Vargas Espín, Alba del Pilar
Anxiety is a mental health disorder that causes a number of symptoms in the person, among which we can mention: intense fear, worry, difficulty concentrating, feeling nervous, tremors, among others; these manifestations alter the way in which the individual behaves, while suicidal risk is the possibility that a subject makes an attempt on his or her life. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between anxiety and suicidal risk in university students, through a non-experimental, quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study. The participants were 362 students, of whom 282 (77.9%) were female and 80 (22.1%) male, selected through inclusion and exclusion criteria by means of a non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The Beck Anxiety Scale (BAI) and the Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale (ERSP) were applied. The results showed that there is a slight positive correlation between anxiety and suicidal risk (Rho=0.638, p<0.001), concluding that the higher the presence of anxiety, the higher the risk of suicide in the sample.
