Suplementación dietética con propoleos: una alternativa al uso de sulfamidas sobre la productividad y salud intestinal en conejos (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
(2018) Bravo Brito, Julio Cesar; Díaz Sjostrom, Pedro
The research was conducted on the experimental rabbitry farm of Agricultural Sciences Faculty, Ambato Technical University, with the aim to evaluate the ethanol extract of propolis (EEP) dietary supplementation as a natural alternative to preventing the use of sulfonamides in intestinal health and rabbit productivity. For this purpose, 30 hybrid rabbits (NZ x C), weaned at 35 days of age, were selected. After a one-week adaptation period, they were individually housed and randomly distributed into three groups of 10 rabbits each, receiving orally during 31 days different daily doses: 0.25 g / l Sulfonamides (T2), 37.5 mg / day EEP (T1) and control group (T0), at the end of the evaluated period, they were sacrified. No statistically significant differences among groups were founded in terms of bio-productive parameters: final weight (T0: 2311.0g, T1: 2409.0g, T2: 2309.0g), carcass weight (T0: 1430.0g, T1: 1465.0g, T2: 1453.0g), carcass yield (T0: 50.1%, T1: 50.4%, T2: 50.7g), weight increasing (T0: 938.5g, T1: 1035.0g, T2: 920.5g), daily gain rate (T0: 26.8g, T1: 29.5 g, T2: 23.3g). Regarding organs (liver, spleen and kidneys) a significant increasing in liver weight was found on T0 (82.17g), spleen on T1 (1.38g), in relation to the other groups, while in kidney weight there was not difference between treatments. The cecal pH registered a slight decreasing in T1 (T0: 6.23, T1: 6.21 and T2: 6.26). An intestinal morphometric analysis was made (length, width of villi and depth of crypts of Lieberkuhn), finding statistically significant differences in the length, width of the villi and depth of crypts of Lieberkuhn in the portion of the duodenum in favor of the group T1, while In the jejunum and ileum-cecal portions there is no significant difference between treated groups. It is concluded that the administration of ethanol extract of propolis can be used as a sulfonamides replacement, with similar effects on productive parameters, cecal pH, morphology of the intestinal mucosa, with benefic effects on lymphopoietic organs as well as hepatic protetor.
